Abstract

Tutus is the son of Sultan Alp Aralan and he is the brother of Sultan Meliksah, after Meliksah took the throne of the Great Seljuk State, he sent Tutus to Syria. Because he wanted to keep his brother away from his trone. He also wanted to make canquests in Syria though his brother. Türkmen Bey Atsız was also in Syria where the conquests wewrew realized. But the Fatimids surrounded him in Damascus. Fort his reason, he asked for help from Tutus that accepted and went to town. Tutus entered the city but took over the administration of the city by killing Atsız. He declared himself a “Syrian Seljuk Melik”. He fought both Fatımids and local rulers in Syrian territory in order to expand the domain of Seljuks. But after the death of the sultan, Tutus took action to seize the throne of the Great Seljuk State. For this reason the struggle in Syria was left unfinished. Tutus who died in this war fought with Meliksah’s son Berkyaruk. In our study we will try to explain the activities of Tutus in Syria and place of these activities in Seljuk history.
