Abstract

The superstitious that are defined as a tendency to explain an event that has a natural reason and is denied supernatural, mysterious and scientifically with reason or reasons, have created their own history in all world cultures. Many of them have fears of humanity on the ground. Especially in the middle ages, each disaster and misfortune was considered as a punishment of God or a sign of witches devoting themselves to the devil. The spell which was applied to get rid of the diseases at first was out of control over time and caused a bloody period. The witch controlling the spell is targeted through the “woman” presence. Therefore, spell and female factor are the most famous factors in superstitious. Of course, not every superstition is based on women, but it is seen that both the reason of many of them was woman and care of them was woman The sanctity of the Mother Goddess in the Pagan culture and Mary in the Christian faith that embraces this culture is an indisputable fact, but in the period of heresy increasing, the woman is considered to be the greatest cause of going to the hell. In this study, the position of women will be tried to be evaluated with various examples in superstitious fed with fear.
