Abstract

Harun al-Rashid, the fifth ruler of Abbasid Caliphate, whose establishment Arabs, Persians and Turks had contributed much, realized a campaign against Byzantine Constantinople, when he was just a prince. However, this campaign has been ignored by historians. Nevertheless, it is of much importance for Turkish History. Because in this army the commandant and the soldiers of Turkish origin had existed. Moreover, this army, in the round-trip journey, went towards Constantinople by passing through Bilecik and its surrounding (Söğüt), which we considered as blessed lands where Ottoman Empire had sprung.From the historical point of view, this study, just as it reflects the conquest movement, is to aim lay emphasis on the conquest by Muslim Turks of Bilecik and its surrounding before some centuries from Seljuqs.
