Abstract
Bu çalışmada Avanos ve çevresine gelen seyyahların bölge hakkında verdikleri bilgiler değerlendirilecektir. Avanos, İç Anadolu Bölgesinin Orta Kızılırmak Bölümünde yer alan bir yerleşim birimidir. Şehrin tarihinin çok eski olduğu bilinmektedir. Kapadokya bölgesinde yer alan Avanos tarihi ve kültürel değerleri yönünden oldukça zengindir. Avanos hakkında ilk bilgi Strabon’un eserinde yer almaktadır. Strabon dışında Paul Lucas, Charles Texier, Roman Oberhummer-Heinrichz Zimmerer ve Yorgo Seferis gibi yabancı seyyahlar ile Nahit Sırrt Örik gibi yerli seyyahların verdiği bilgiler çalışmamızda değerlendirilecektir. Seyyahların gözüyle Avanos’un tarihi, kültürel ve sosyal durumu incelenmiştir.

Abstract
In this study, the knowlegde about the area given by travelers who had visited to Avanos and around will be evaluated. Avanos is a place located in Middle Kızılırmak area of the Middle Anatolia region. It is known that the history of the city is too old. Avanos which is located in Cappadocia area is rich for historical and cultural values. The first knowledge about the Avanos is in the book of Strabon. The knowledge of foreign travellers such as Strabon as well as Paul Lucas, Charles Texier, Roman Oberhummer-Heinrichz Zimmerer and Yorgo Seferis and the knowlegde of domestic traveler Nahit Sırrt Örik will be evaluated in our study. History, cultural and social status of Avanos from the eyes of travelers is investigated.
