Abstract

Abstract

The all three worlds of the Middle Ages (here we mean the European, Byzantine and Islamic words), were the heirs of the Pharmacologic cultures and studies primarily in Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Ancient Anatolia, Ancient China and Ancient India as well as in Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. However, with the fall of the Roman Empire, Byzantium tried to maintain this legacy in accordance with its original form. Due to the religious limitations of the Roman Papal Institution, the traditional and even primitive teachings and habits of the societies in this geography rather than being scientific, Western Europe had not caught up to its old position. For these reasons, with the spread of Islam in the Middle East and the realization of the Islamic Renaissance in the Abbasid period, the European world fell to the third place in the field of Pharmacology as in all branches of science. The recovery of Western Europe in the aforementioned scientific studies was only possible as a result of the relations with the states established in Andalusia and Sicily by the Muslims and the science and technological transfers made from the east to the west during the Crusades. As a time period, this could be possible only at the end of the Middle Ages.

In this study, the adventure of the culture, science and studies of Pharmacology in the Western European world, which was in the third place after the Islamic world in the first place and the Byzantine world in the second place, is discussed. The study is completed with an evaluation and a conclusion along with the main topic.
