Abstract
On ikinci yüzyıl boyunca siyasi yapısında değişimler yaşayan İngiltere, kendi içerisinde bir savaş verirken sosyal sınıflarında da değişiklikler olmuştur. Fatih William döneminde şövalyelere verilen kıymet belirgin bir şekilde artmıştır. II. Henry’nin Clarendon Yasalarındaki maddeler ile güvenlik konusundaki rollerinden dolayı da şövalyeler daha fazla ayrıcalıklar elde etmişlerdir. William Marshal ise bu şövalyeler içerisinde en dikkat çekenlerindendir. “Anarşi” döneminde rehin verilen bir çocuktan, kahraman bir şövalyeye, dükten, kral danışmanına dönüşmüştür. Özellikle de William Marshal’ın 1147’den 1219’a kadar süren hayatının II. Henry ile ilişkili dönemi oldukça dikkat çekicidir. Bunu sadece II. Henry dönemi ile sınırlamadaki amacımız, William Marshal’ın kraliyet ailesi için önemli olmaya başladığı dönemi anlatmaktır. II. Henry dönemi ile Marshal, İngiliz şövalyeliğinin yüzü olmuştur. Bu makalede de William Marshal’ın II. Henry dönemindeki hizmetlerini anlatmaya çalışacağız.

Abstract
England, which experienced changes in its political structure with the twelfth century, was fighting a war within itself, and changes in its social classes also occurred. The value given to knights increased significantly during the reign of William the Conqueror. The knights also got more privileges due to the role of Henry II in security with the charters of Assize of Clarendon. William Marshal is one of the most remarkable of these knights. He transformed from a child hostage during the “anarchy” period to a heroic knight, from a dukedom to an advisor to the king. Especially the period of William Marshal's life, which lasted from 1147 to 1219, associated with Henry II is quite remarkable. Our purpose in limiting this to the reign of Henry II only is to describe the period when William Marshal began to be important to the royal family. During the reign of Henry II, Marshal became the face of British knighthood. In this article, we will try to tell the services of William Marshal during the reign of Henry II.
