DEER STONES AROUND STEPPE CULTURE

Abstract

The field which is called Steppe includes a very large area from Tuna River to Chinese Wall. Both rider nomad and settled comminities who lived in this area used deer figures in all fields of social, political, army and religious. Consedering Turkish history from the earliest days it is seen that the deer motives were often given roles in both arkeological studies and mythological elements. Animal fight scenes were processed in a whole of material cultural ruins of Middle Asia. In these scenes elegant figures of the deers and gazelles were important elements garnishing workings. The holiness of the deer has located in these motives.
