Abstract

Development process of Byzantium Empire took a quite long time. Even the maturity process of that empire in terms of science took place in the period of medieval and late Byzantium. In other words Byzantium Empire spent approximately its five hundred years in recovery and rising process and the maturity began after nineteenth century. Therefore when the medicine in early Byzantium is examined in detail it can be seen that it resembles the medicinein the period of regression of Roman Empire. The works written by the doctors of that period are the repetitions of the works of archaic age in terms of the information they gave and their contents. Namely they are the restatemenets of the information given by Hippocrates and Galen. In this regard, although early Byzantium medicinehas asignificant place in the history of medicine it does gave attention-grabbing features. Nevertheless early Byzantium medicine affected its period to some extent and was also affected by the developments seen in the field of medicine. However the positive side of above-mentioned medicine did not affect the world as medieval Islamic medicine or western medicine could do.
